Kyle Shanahan is still holding out hope that two of his stars — quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and tight end George Kittle — can make late-season returns. Of course, the San Francisco 49ers will need to be playing for something for either's return to be worth it. These next few games are critical for the 49ers' playoff hopes. That begins on Monday night when the team hosts the Buffalo Bills at its temporary home, State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Shanahan initially hoped to get Garoppolo back by Week 15. Takkarist McKinley consistent while thanking former teams, including 49ers

Takkarist McKinley is a member of the Oakland Raiders now. It's his fourth NFL team in two weeks. The Raiders claimed the defensive end after the San Francisco 49ers waived him last Friday due to a failed physical. That, of course, came after the Cincinnati Bengals waived him ... due to a failed physical. And the whole process started when the Atlanta Falcons waived him on November 9. 49ers' Hroniss Grasu and Joe Walker join Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw on the reserve/COVID-19 list

The San Francisco 49ers announced today that two more players — center Hroniss Grasu and linebacker Joe Walker — have joined defensive linemen Arik Armstead and Javon Kinlaw on the reserve/COVID-19 list. That adds up to 11 49ers players who have landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list this year, and the fourth this week. Armstead landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. Contact tracing resulted in Kinlaw landing on the list on Wednesday. The 49ers have been working remotely this week but plan to hold a practice on Friday. Beginning Saturday, every NFL team will be required to operate under the league's intensive protocol
