San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided the following injury updates after Thursday's walk-through.
Tight end George Kittle is dealing with a tight hamstring, leading to his lighter-than-usual workload on Wednesday.
"He checked out alright, but it was tight, so we took him out of there before something bad happened," Shanahan said.
Another tight end, Ross Dwelley, is dealing with foot issues and a little bit of pain, which are improving. He is day-to-day and isn't expected to practice on Friday when the team conducts a session on the Levi's Stadium field. Shanahan is hopeful of getting Dwelley back for next week.
"He scared us for a little bit because of how much it was hurting him, but it's improving pretty rapidly right now," Shanahan said. "We're feeling more optimistic about that, right now."
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is dealing with a hamstring strain and is week-to-week.
Safety Marcell Harris "rolled his ankle a little bit, missed a practice," and is day-to-day. He participated in Thursday's walk-through and should practice on Friday.
The 49ers got a scare during Wednesday's practice when cornerback Richard Sherman went down with what initially looked to be a severe injury. He was fine, though, and continued to practice.
"I know it looked scary to everyone, the way his shoe came off and stuff," Shanahan said. "It's where he's had injuries in the past. But it ended up just being painful [after a player] stepped on his foot, which probably irritated him more than anything."
Shanahan shared some better-than-expected news on the injury front. Offensive lineman Ross Reynolds suffered a bone bruise in his leg. It certainly looked worse when Reynolds had to be carted off the practice field on Sunday.
"He's going to be able to recover from it," Shanahan shared. "... An extremely painful thing, very scary for him, but he didn't tear anything up or break anything, so it's going to be a lot better than how it looked out there at the time."
The 49ers announced on Thursday that the team waived defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo with an injury designation. Shanahan shared that he suffered a groin injury, leading to the move as it became a numbers game.
"We had to make a move with that," Shanahan explained. "He had an injury, and we don't have enough guys there. So we had to waive him injured, bring in some more people. Hopefully, we get a guy in here in the next couple of days. It takes a while with all the COVID testing and stuff. We're just low on numbers."
Center Ben Garland remains week-to-week with an ankle injury, which Shanahan says is worse than some of the others dealing with similar injuries.
"He's looking good on the side, and hopefully, that will continue," Shanahan added.
