Head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't seem to know if anyone from the San Francisco 49ers would be in Atlanta on Saturday for the league-organized workout of quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

"I don't know," Shanahan said when asked if the 49ers would be there. "I would guess, but not something I've asked [the scouts or personnel staff] yet."

It turns out, someone from the 49ers will be there, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Added Shanahan: "I don't know at all the schedule of our personnel guys. I mean, during the season, during their offseason, it's not their offseason, but their main time is draft time, but yeah, they are all over the place. We got guys all over, so I'm sure that someone can be there. I don't think that would be too tough."

Kaepernick, 32, last played in the NFL during the 2016 season and officially opted out of his contract with the 49ers on March 3, 2017, shortly after the arrival of general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, who had no intention of retaining the veteran quarterback. He has remained unsigned since.

San Francisco made Kaepernick a second-round draft pick in 2011. He completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in his five NFL seasons.

Kaepernick's name dominated headlines during the 2016 season because of his refusal to stand during the national anthem. That protest is believed by many to be one potential reason why most NFL clubs have steered clear of the controversial figure.

Kaepernick, along with former teammate Eric Reid, now with the Carolina Panthers, filed a grievance in October of 2017 under the collective bargaining agreement, alleging collusion by NFL teams against signing him. The two reached a settlement with the NFL on February 15.

Multiple sources have stated that Saturday's workout is not part of that settlement, and some, like ESPN's Adam Schefter, remain skeptical if the workout will even take place.

If it does take place, representatives from the 49ers plan to be there.

By David Bonilla

Numerous NFL teams reportedly reached out to the San Francisco 49ers before and during the draft to inquire about the team's star wide receivers, Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports that the New England Patriots were among the teams that had "preliminary trade discussions" about Samuel. "In general, when teams explore potential transactions with other clubs, finding middle ground on compensation can be challenging," wrote Anderson. "There are always many considerable factors on why the price should possibly be one thing, or another." I'm told the

Brandon Aiyuk isn't the only San Francisco 49ers player being mentioned in trade chatter around the NFL. "In the course of trade conversations about Brandon Aiyuk, numerous teams are inquiring about fellow 49ers WR Deebo Samuel's availability," Silver reports. "The 49ers would likely have to be blown away by the offer to make that move. Fluid situation, though." Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his

By David Bonilla
Apr 18

On Wednesday, Chat Sports contributor Chase Senior reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers were "aggressively pursuing" San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He further stated that the Steelers are confident they can finalize a deal for the star player. REPORTS: The Pittsburgh Steelers are aggressively pursuing a Brandon Aiyuk trade and the Steelers would be "surprised" if they don't land Aiyuk. Of note: Pittsburgh has the 20th overall pick.
