The memory of quarterback Steve Young hitting wide receiver Terrell Owens for the go-ahead score at the end of the NFC Wildcard game from the 1998 season is one of the first memories that come to mind for the Niner Faithful when they think of the great moments in San Francisco 49ers versus Green Bay Packers history. That and maybe quarterback Brett Favre's look of disappointment on the sideline immediately after the play.
That play, dubbed "The Catch II," is represented in a photo gallery the team released this week depicting the 49ers' classic moments against the Packers. The two teams meet on Monday night at Lambeau Field.
For younger fans, they remember quarterback Colin Kaepernick slashing and dashing Packers defenses, including a 45-31 victory in the divisional playoff round of the 2012 season. He completed 17-of-31 pass attempts for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in that game but also had 181 rushing yards with two touchdowns on 16 carries. The 181 rushing yards stand as a league record for a quarterback and includes a memorable 56-yard run in the third quarter.
Kaepernick is no stranger to controversy. He is in the middle of a collusion grievance against the NFL after spending two offseasons without a team.
Kaepernick's absence from the gallery oddly made headlines across the web on Friday morning. What is the 49ers' response to the omission of the former 49ers quarterback from the gallery? General manager John Lynch was asked about it during a Friday-morning KNBR interview.
"I just learned about it a couple of minutes ago," Lynch said on the "Murph & Mac" show. "Obviously, from our part, a glaring omission. From ownership on down, we've got so much respect for his contributions to this franchise and against the Packers. Anyone who is a fan of football, let alone 49er fans, knows that he has a great part of history against the Packers.
"We're looking into right now how that happened, and we're trying to rectify it. I just learned about it and so not something that I'm proud of. It's a glaring omission, as I said. We're working right now to get that fixed."

The 49ers also released the following statement on Friday morning:
"Unfortunately there were a handful of obvious misses in this gallery posted by our website team and we appreciate them being brought to our attention. The 49ers organization has tremendous respect and gratitude for the contributions Colin made to our team over the years. We have fond memories of those games and that should have been displayed on our website. This oversight does not properly reflect the appreciation our ownership and this team have for Colin."
