The anti-Jimmy: 49ers C Kilgore jokes about non-star status

Feb 14, 2018 at 5:40 PM--

What is the opposite of the Jimmy Garoppolo contract extension? The Daniel Kilgore contract extension? Don't worry. The 49ers center won't take offense. In fact, Kilgore joked about his anti-Garoppolo status Wednesday after signing his three-year extension from Tennessee: He noted he didn't quite receive the franchise-QB treatment afforded to Garoppolo last week. "I'm actually back home waiting for my private jet to fly to the Bay Area," Kilgore said. "… No, it's 2018 and they just do a Docu-sign, so it's all good. I was in the middle of working out when I signed my contract. But I would take the private jet, yes.

From special teams hopeful to surprising 49ers star: Rookie Elijah Mitchell grateful for the opportunity

By David Bonilla

In August, San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Elijah Mitchell said he was willing to do "anything and everything" just to make the roster. As a sixth-round pick, and the team's last selection in this year's draft, nothing was guaranteed for him. Mitchell wasn't even the first running back drafted by the 49ers. The team selected Trey Sermon in the third round. For Mitchell, that meant doing whatever was asked of him just to ensure that his time with the 49ers didn't come to a close. "Like I said, I'm willing to do anything and everything just to be on this team," Mitchell said. "So, [special teams] is going to be one of my roles but also being a

Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo leaving door open for QB to remain with 49ers in 2022

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about the future of the team's quarterback position. Jimmy Garoppolo is the starter right now. His eventual successor is rookie Trey Lance. That plan has not changed. The timing of the transition, however, is uncertain. Garoppolo has played well over this recent four-game stretch. San Francisco has won three of its last four, and the quarterback owns the league's best passer rating (113.2) during that span. If Garoppolo leads the 49ers into the playoffs, the team might not be eager to part ways with the veteran. Shanahan was asked if the Garoppolo to Lance transition could be delayed, given the former's recent success. Might the 49ers hold onto Garoppolo for the 2022 season? "I think there's a

Albert Breer not buying that the 49ers are considering keeping Jimmy Garoppolo for 2022

By David Bonilla

Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated this week that he's not willing to close the door on the possibility that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will return to the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. Naturally, that led to headlines stating that Garoppolo might return next season when most figured the team would transition to Trey Lance by then. Of course, that wasn't exactly what Shanahan stated. "I think there's a chance for anything," Shanahan said on Wednesday when asked about Garoppolo's future. The coach went on to reiterate that Lance is the team's future. The timeline, however, remains up in the air, especially with Garoppolo playing at an impressive level over the last
