On Sunday, before the game's first snap, Jimmy Garoppolo discovered the radio in his helmet wasn't working so he had to come up with a play in the huddle instead of receiving it from coach Kyle Shanahan. Garoppolo's call: An off-tackle run to Carlos Hyde that gained 2 yards. Meh. It didn't make center Daniel Kilgore think the 49ers quarterback should assume Shanahan's duties. "I don't think so," Kilgore said, laughing. "I think coach Shanahan does an excellent job calling plays." Indeed, Garoppolo's inexperience in the role was obvious: Everyone knows the 49ers' best play calls are passes by Garoppolo.
