New quarterback; worse result. The 49ers gave rookie C.J. Beathard his first NFL start Sunday and they went from plucky to pounded. After losing each of Brian Hoyer's last five starts by three points or less, which is an NFL record, the 49ers were humiliated 40-10 by the Cowboys in their most lopsided loss in Levi's Stadium history. Their string of competitive losses had suggested they were making incremental progress, but Sunday marked an obvious step back: They were outgained 501-290 and suffered their worst loss since a 47-7 defeat at Arizona on Sept. 27, 2015.
