The Bears drafted quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, whom the 49ers almost certainly didn't want. Phenomenal trade for the 49ers. [...]

How Steve Young expects defenses to attack 49ers QB Brock Purdy down the stretch

By David Bonilla
10 hrs

Quarterback Brock Purdy will face the No. 7 ranked defense in the NFL this weekend when the San Francisco 49ers host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Levi's Stadium. So it's a good thing that, in his first week of practice as QB1, he's going against the top-ranked defense in the league. Last week, Purdy finished 25-of-37 for 210 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the Miami Dolphins, the quarterback's first extended action of his pro career. San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call on Monday, the day after the team's 33-17 win over the Miami Dolphins and the loss of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Opening Comments: "Alright guys, injuries. [QB] Jimmy [Garoppolo] with his broken foot, still doing a lot of testing. He has to talk to some foot specialists, so I don't really have any new information on that, but the same as what I told

"I am on the Brock Purdy bandwagon": Where the 49ers stand in Week 14 power rankings after losing Jimmy Garoppolo

By David Bonilla

With each victory, the San Francisco 49ers were creeping their way up the power rankings. The team has now won five consecutive games, their last being against the red-hot Miami Dolphins. Garoppolo is the second starting quarterback the 49ers have lost this season. Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2, setting the stage for Garoppolo to take over under center. Now, it will be QB3 on the depth chart, the last overall pick in this year's draft, Brock Purdy, helming head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense. Luckily, the 49ers defense is playing lights-out football and is clearly the class of the NFL. Will it be
