The 49ers bolstered their depth-starved backfield corps Saturday by agreeing to terms with former Saints running back Tim Hightower, who had 1,252 total yards rushing and receiving in a backup role the past two seasons. In 2011, Hightower played in Washington when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator and 49ers running backs coach Bobby Turner was also on the staff. A 2008 fifth-round pick, Hightower's 32 career rushing touchdowns rank 19th among active players. Hightower had a career renaissance with the Saints in 2015 after three seasons out of the NFL due to a torn ACL he sustained in 2011 and a rehabilitation that was complicated by an infection.
