Just 347 days after Kelly's introductory news conference, the 49ers fired Kelly tonight about two hours after their 25-23 loss to the Seahawks ended a 2-14 season. Before kickoff, general manager Trent Baalke confirmed he had been fired. "Despite my feelings for Trent and Chip, I felt the decision to change our football leadership was absolutely necessary," CEO Jed York said. The performance of this team has not lived up to my expectations or those of our fans, and that is truly disappointing. Said Baalke in a statement: I would like to thank Jed and the York family for the opportunity to work for one of the most storied franchises in all of sports.
