It's was just a running joke back in the day with sports guys in Detroit saying Deer either hit a HR or SO because he was one of the 3 guys who hit 30+ HR's with the Tigers in '92. Oddly enough no player on that team batted over .300 that year.
Yeah when Deer went to the Brewers I always saw him as filling Gorman Thomas' "all or nothing" shoes.
I remember those early-90s Tigers teams, had some boppers with Cecil Fielder leading the way, and was about the time they were transitioning away from Trammell at short and going with Fryman...a couple former A's in Tony Phillips and the okie Mickey Tettleton, a catcher with power, had some really good seasons in that timeframe.
Tettleton was my dude. That stance and a whole pouch of redman in his cheek, lol.
