But..usually they reschedule games. Cardinals and Royals do not play again this season, so they can't throw it in a later series like they normally do.

My friend said since the Royals took the lead in the 9th and the Cardinals didn't get a chance to respond, it goes back to the last full played inning. Meaning the top of the 9th didn't count.

After the bottom of the 8th, the Cardinals were leading 2-1

If the visiting team ties or goes ahead and the home team has not hit in the bottom of the inning then the game would be suspended and played at a later date. You are correct.

But what if they don't play again this season? We play the Giants tomorrow..so its not like they can just finish the 9th tomorrow

From what I've heard THE CARDINALS HAVE TO BAT. You can't end a game in the top of an inning.

SUSPENDED GAMES.
(a) A game shall become a suspended game that must be completed at a future date if the game is terminated for any of the following reasons:
(1) A curfew imposed by law;
(2) A time limit permissible under league rules;
(3) Light failure or malfunction of a mechanical field device under control of the home club. (Mechanical field device shall include automatic tarpaulin or water removal equipment);
(4) Darkness, when a law prevents the lights from being turned on;

Yeah..saw that. Just wondering if the same rules apply for interleague play..especially if they don't play again. I dunno..I'm confused

They would probably only finish the game if it meant something in the standings at the end of the year in this case. Or possibly find an off day. KC and STL are pretty darn close so I doubt that would be a problem. One thing I am positive about though... the score would not go back to the end of the 8th.
