First KO return against Dallas we're gonna fumble it and give up a TD

If that happened we'd immediately see a few guys cut and some of the vets brought back (Osgood, Spillman etc.).

I'm not sure why people are worried about McCray and Ward as the gunners. Those two are very fast and great tackling machines. I think the gunning is going to be better than last year. And Ellington is pretty sensational returning kicks. I won't be surprised if he breaks one for a TD early in the season. I'm concerned about losing Morris and Osgood, but I think McCray and Ward are going to juice the coverage up pretty well.

wish i had the brain of mr spock in here but 25 is right,, i really really do not know. i will just trust the front office.. it is good we still have a few standout special team vets like dahl, skuta michael w and a few others that are still here so it is not a 100 per cent kiddie corps on special teams

I think we'll be fine.
Sure, we'll have some growing pains and slip-ups will happen.
Seely is a first rate coach and I'm confident he'll get it to work.
In my heart I'm still hoping we can resign Osgood.

As everyone knows S/T is 1/3 of the game. Dawson looked hella shaky in the preseason @ Levi's. Andy Lee was so - so. We changed the long snapper again?
It's scary folks. Brad Seely better do his effin job.
In all that has went on over the last 24 or so hours, the long snapper thing slipped by me. Wtf is up with that? The guy who replaced Jennings wasnt any good in the preseason? The heir apperent was better?? I know cutting Jennings was a cost thing, but I would think his replacement would be around for a little.
Nelson is supposedly better in coverage, more agile. Can play TE in the pinch.

I think Baalke just didn't want a horder of ST specialists. He wants guys who can contribute at their position coz we're going to need them in 2-3 years time.
Retool now so we don't have to Rebuild later.

Is ot a good idea to put our starting nickel on st?

An average NFL game has ~70 plays on offense and ~70 on defense, and only about 25 on ST's. And of the 25 on ST's about 9 are touchbacks or fair catches, leaving 15-16 returns or FG's per game.
So that means ~7-8 returns per game for your coverage units and another 7-8 kicks/punts per game that you return. So special teams are not near as important as O and D, not 1/3rd of the game. But still very important of course, as the 49ers found in the superbowl.

They should let Ward concentrate on nickel (but also learn the ST's as a back-up)

Fine. These dudes are young, fast and can tackle. Just stay in your lane and beat people down the field and wrap up and there's no problem.
the opposite would be to get rid of who in favor of osgood and spillman?

spillman been on this team for how long and hasn't improved one bit as a safety? like not 1 bit... not 1 there was no reason to keep him. stay in your lane and be fast. that's what these gunners have to do.
but my point is if we keep osgood we cutting patton or ellington? if we keep spillman we're cutting mccray or johnson and move ward over to corner so spillman can be listed as a safety?
