I hate to be a complainer especially when this team is looking like one of the most dominant teams in the game past decade the way they have been playing
The D line is so rock solid that they are not giving up any running yards Orr good throwing lanes
However I am concerned that our sack number is low
1. Aaron Rodgers got abused for 9 sacks vs Seattle, we got 3
2. Detroit o line is porous', got 3

3. We went against bills o line that had 2 substitutes and came away with 1 sack only from brooks
4. No pressure on Ponder, 0 sack
5. Bubbling Sanchez 2 sacks

9 sacks in 5 games is a reason for concern from me.. Especially when we had 2 sacks last 3 games
I am concerned because against Manning and Brady we need pass rush bad! I don't want the d line to fatigue at end of season or wear down or get injured

We may need a pass rush ol or de specialist next year to take some pressure off the CBs.. I know we play lots of 3 and 4 man rush and barely blitz
We are getting pressure (disrupting passes) and stopping the run, dont need negative yards when almost all plays are 3 and outs.
I read a Profootballfocus report about how Justin isnt playing at the level he was last year. I kinda agree. He still makes those monsterous plays but maybe hes just being asked to tie up blockers more than before. He still cant be moved off the ball, just not getting as much penetration as were used to seeing from him. Hopefully that will change as the season goes on

very true. were still incredibly dominant but i think our Dline will just get better.

I just dont get it, everything listed about our d is what elite defenses do, just cause we arent getting a satisfactory number of sacks is no reason to complain though. Other then hitting the qb we are nothing but disruptive to an offense from the defensive side.

i agree, i think people are just holding us to a higher standard than "elite". I honestly believe if we had wont he SB last year, that defense wouldve been hailed as one of the all time greatest defenses.

If we win it this year it would be the same. The formula is simple, we send 4, 5 max after the QB to leave more in coverage. We might not get alot of sacks, but we force qbs into situations they dont want to be in. Blind passes, passes into double coverage, throw aways, rushing plays before developing. They do there job very well.

I agree. I would like to see a stat of # of sacks per 'sent 6 or more' and a # of sacks per 'sent 5 or less' and I bet we are not that far behind. We just don't send people.

One thing about last year is when Aldon came in, he pinned his ears and mauled people
This year, he is making terrific plays on 1st and 2nd downs, stopping runs and passes, on third down, he does not have the explosion any more and is usually getting tied up by one person while ray Mac and jsmith are getting double coverage..
What I am thinking is saving some of our guys and rotating them to give them fresh legs for end of game...

Now the way offense has been playing and how many quick 3 and outs we are getting my point is now moot... But I was just throwing this idea for when we p,lay say the giants next week...
Get haggans in there for running downs, and unleash Aldon on 3rd and longs!
The OLB are containing the edges more and can't just pin their ears back. When there have been pressure, some QBs we've played have either scrambled or thrown the ball away. This 49er team so far is ranked #4 in pass defense and for the most part only send 4 at the QB.

That's because we are playing Cover 7 or 8.
I like to believe that they're saving themselves for the playoffs.

OK Part of Aldons success was not being an every down LB, every play he was in he was fresh and energized. Hes not able to just pin his ears back and attack every time, sometimes he gets persuaded out into light coverage (which needs serious work). Having Aldon in for running downs is much better because the side where Justin and Aldon are attacking on the running downs usually binds up 3-4 blockers or takes running to that side away meaning the rb has to go in the opposite direction leading him directly to Willis, Bowman or Brooks which is never good for a running back. Aldon just in at 3rd and long is no use to us, especially against the giants, because Eli is efficient at getting the ball out quick so Aldons not even going to get to Eli in time. Our line is for the most part playing there part in making sure the run is unsuccessful and passing is complicated, sacks are not a necessity, getting there offense off the field is, and with a passing team you get them off the field faster ruining there passing game which on our defense relys on disruption of a qbs vision, and the coverage doing there job..
Heres a good article. we dont blitz very much. we never rushed more than 5 rushers in the bills game. saving it, for when we have too...
