good news everyone, Sing has a solution!

-Q: What can you do to cover the screen passes against you?

-SINGLETARY: We just have to do a better job. They just did a good job of catching us in the right situation. I think for us, we just have to do a better job of hustling over and taking the right angles and getting the guy out of bounds.

apparently our guys just aren't motivated to defend screens, they just need to try harder, run faster, and stop playing like women

Probably true, our guys simply don't get to the ball on screens. Our line is overly aggressive. You would think that once the Olineman opposite of him just lets him go that he would figure out screen. Not the case outside of J Smith
With the amount of pressure we have been getting we might as well drop all 3 lineman into coverage.

"We just have to do a better job" is Singletary's 2nd favorite quote, right after, "We just have to look at the film." In other words, he's saying, "I have no idea what went wrong and how to fix it." This is becoming more popular than Nolan's, "We just have to stay the course."
Because the screens are run to the opposite side where manny lawson is.
manny is very good in setting the edge, and quick enough to recover, haralson/la Boy are slow.

Also because our D is very agressive and lacks a pure passrusher therefore you have to scheme to get pressure which makles you wunerable to the screen.

It never fails to amaze me that for aleast five years we have the same problem, and nothing is done to fix that.

Same goes for our secondary, wunerable in coverage, bites on double moves.
It may be a little bit of both. Usually 4-3 ends and olb's snuff out screens. In a 3-4, those DE's got to be fast/quick/smart enough to see it and react, which besides Justin Smith, we don't have. Also, we're a 1-gap penetrating team, to the screens allow us to get up field while it gets set up behind the first level.

You may have also noticed that we have issues with the delay hand offs as well, and for the same reasons.

No respect for our team, so no one bites on screens or trick plays.
Coaching, pure and simple. This is a HC job, who discusses tactics with DC, and i would hope p52, and if they can't figure it out, then we got the wrong HC. A coach's job is to plan for next game figure out beforehand how to fix our weaknesses, and frankly bigmike(BM) has proven time and again he isn't up to it. It is an admission he doesn't have the coaching acumen to figure out how to stop screens. Two weeks in a row, and we got worse defending screens. Actually they were just gimme yds for KC. Their coach has the experience on how to take advantage of our obvious weakness from the week before . BM doesn't have the experience on how to correct this glaring weakness. Put a helmet on him, and he would do a fine job. Put a coaches whistle around his neck and he fails. Once again , this is why a coach comes up thru the ranks...so he will know what to do when the wheels come off. The longer he stays, the worse it gets. So when will be his last game as HC? When we are O-5, 0-6, 1-7. Sure, that's the way it ended with noln, equally unprepared to HC, with no OC ideas what soever, and no experience in same.

BM lacks knowledge of how to coach DBs, DLs, WRs TEs, QBs, OLs, STs...but he sure knows how to coach LBs. In this league, that is not enough...not near enough. Furthermore, being jump skipped to HC without any DC or OC experience...well, what did you expect, a miracle? He ain't the one, and to deny it is to further wreck our season. So far he has finally admitted his mistake(well, not really...it was the helmets), and corrected one thing. He can't help AD on blocking, because, well, he never coached OL...or any other position than LB. He's a good guy, who has no business taking this team down the drain with him. You don't promote a guy to HC with out the requisite experience and coaching credentials...and he DOESN'T have either. His mentor? Whew, lil mikey noln, and that is not a credible coach either.

Guys, he has to go, and the sooner the better. Make mJ the temporary OC/QB coach, and keep manusky the DC. At least we would get experience instead of tired old 1985 football, the only thing bm has to fall back on. IT ain't enough. I would like to see him exit gracefully...to spend more time with family, or do motivational speeches. But if he is stubborn there, too, fire him. Now. Let's see if we can save our season. Does anyone really think he has his team behind him? He is lost, and beating the rams or Az isn't going to fix anything. Let's move on without him and without JR.
a good coach would know when to expect a screen and call it out to his players. s**t, I remember in high school, our coach would tell us to expect the screen, and often times he was right.
