The 49ers could decide to draft a player that could add to our return game.

Here are some players who could add to the return game.

A player's return skills could add significant weight to their perceived value.

I am sure that I missed somebody.

Thanks I knew I would.

Kaelin Clay two years---13 games

22 kick returns for 548 yards and 1 score----24.91 average

23 punt returns for 346 yards and 3 scores-----15.04 average

Raheem Mostert, Purdue (fastest man in college football).

Was grossly underutilized in college, but freshman year, lead the NCAA in kick return average (33.5 yards a return).

For his career, 88 returns, 2289, 26.0 yards a return, 2 TDs.

Also saw few carries at Purdue, but in 136 carries, had 759 yards, 5.6 yards a carry, and 6 TDs.

Was the Big Ten 100m and 200m champion.

thank you.

Might be worth picking him as an UDFA
This guy could be a nice late round/UDFA pick. He's really slight at 5-10 and about 160, but he could compete with Trindon Holiday and Ellington for return duties (if we don't draft Dorsett or Lockett or someone similar in the 3-5 range - Lockett's return ability has me extra intrigued now):

JJ Nelson -- UAB
1st Team All-American Kick Returner for 2014 by Walter Camp Foundation:
http://www.uabsports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/121114aac.html

"Nelson concluded the campaign ranked No. 1 in the country in kickoff return average at 38.3 yards per return, which is the fifth-highest season mark in NCAA history. Nelson returned four kickoffs for touchdowns (vs. WKU, Arkansas, Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss) this season to tie the Conference USA single-season record. Four kickoff returns for touchdowns by Nelson in a season are one shy of the NCAA record.

Nelson's five career touchdowns on kickoff returns is No. 3 all-time in the conference record book.

Nelson finished his UAB career with 76 kickoff returns for 1,932 yards (25.4 average). His career average is a Blazer school record."

Also averaged 10.65 yards per punt return for 2014.

Here's his NFL Draft Scout profile:

At Purdue pro day, ran a 4.32 40, 4.30 short shuttle, 6.90 3-cone, 40'' vert, 11' broad jump, and 21 reps of 225.

His teammate, Akeem Hunt, who is good returner himself (career: 74 returns, 1747 yards, 23.6 yards per return, and 2 TDs) but is better RB, had a good day also. Hunt ran 4.38 40, 4.07 short shuttle, 6.71 3-cone, 10'2 broad, 37.5" vert, and 14 reps at 225. Gil Brandt says he thinks Hunt gets drafted now.
I still like Stefon Diggs on day 3.
Bases on college stats, if Montgomery falls, he might be an interesting ST player.

This

Plus we got the Hayne guy... maybe go after Corey Grant (very fast) if he goes undrafted or even in 6th/7th rd

Cause Baalke clearly doesn't think so. Why bring in Haynes who right now, is best fitted as a returner. Why bring in Ginn, who'd get no snaps at WR? He clearly is looking for a new returner or at least competition. Why just hand Ellington the job and not explore better alternatives?

Call me an idiot but i think ellington is a well-above-average talent. dang, just give him reps and watch him grow as a player.

I think they're smart to build some depth/competition.
Would like Lockett, since he is such a good receiver/returner combo...smaller than Montgomery, but much better hands...
