49ers owner Jed York clarifies stance on futures of Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York made his position clear regarding the futures of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch on Monday morning. Speaking with reporters at the NFL meetings in Phoenix, Arizona, York expressed hope that both would remain with the team for the long term.

"I think Kyle's got three years left [on his contract]," York said. "I want Kyle to be here for a long time. He's been here for a long time. I want him to be here even longer."

Shanahan and Lynch have worked together since 2017, overseeing a roster rebuild that transformed the struggling 49ers into a near-consistent contender.

While Shanahan reportedly has three years remaining on his deal, Lynch is believed to have one fewer.

"J.L., I think it's this year and next, but I don't know off the top of my head," York said. "I want J.L. to be here for a long time. But it's really, what do those guys want to do? When you sit down and have conversations after ten years, where do you want to be, what is your life like, and how do you see it? And do you want to re-up to be a part of the 49ers? Do you want to do something else in our organization in a different place?

"I don't know the answer, but I have a great relationship with both those guys, and I hope they're here and they're with me, and the 49ers, in our family, for a very long time."

As the 49ers continue to build toward sustained success, it's clear that York wants both Shanahan and Lynch to remain part of the team's long-term vision—if that aligns with their own goals.
