San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jimmie Ward went down in the second quarter of the team's game against the Seattle Seahawks today. It was a non-contact injury that saw Ward grabbing his right leg and was reported as a quad injury. He walked off of the field with the assistance of two trainers and was replaced by Keith Reaser. Ward is reportedly OUT against the Seahawks.
Ward has been the 49ers' top rated cornerback this season per advanced statistics site Pro Football Focus. He was also the 49ers' highest rated defensive back, which includes safeties, last season.
Tight end Vance McDonald also left the game with a hip injury and was reported as QUESTIONABLE to return.
UPDATE:
Following the game, head coach Chip Kelly stated that he believes that Ward's injury was to his muscle and not something more serious.
