Mike Giddings, a long-time NFL personnel guru, named three up-and-coming teams on
SiriusXM NFL Radio that he believes fans should keep a close eye on this season. One of those teams was the San Francisco 49ers. The other two were the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Giddings named the 49ers among the "young, exciting" teams that should be significant factors within their divisions. "Believe it or not, a team in the NFC West would be interesting to watch would be San Francisco," he says. "They had the two off years the last two years, but I think they could be another team that's in the mix."
Giddings has spent time as an NFL assistant coach, personnel man, and the head coach at University of Utah and within the short-lived World Football League in the 70s. Following his stint with Utah, he was an assistant with the 49ers from 1968 until 1973 and the Denver Broncos from 1976 until 1981.

Two NFL playoff teams praise 49ers CB Emmanuel Moseley
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Emmanuel Moseley didn't play much this past season, suffering a torn ACL in Week 5. However, it was enough to intrigue some NFL teams.
Moseley is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. Don't assume he will be an easy re-sign just because he is coming off a severe injury. According to Jordan Schultz of The Score, in talking with two playoff teams, it is clear that Moseley has earned some respect around the league.
"Have spoken with two playoff teams today who like him," Schultz wrote. "I'm also told Moseley will be 100 percent ready for camp. Only 26 years old, he had a pick-six, as well as 5 PBUs and 1 TFL before suffering a torn ACL last
Assessing the 49ers roster and needs after one week of free agency
The first wave of free agency has come and gone, and the 49ers have had to say goodbye to a number of familiar faces while welcoming a few new ones. There's been a good amount of shuffling over the past week, but one thing remains clear -- the 49ers still have one of the best rosters in the NFL.
There's still more players to be added in the weeks ahead, both in the draft and in free agency. The 49ers still need depth and competition in a few areas, and maybe a new starter in a key spot on special teams. But with the way things look now, the 49ers could be looking at a fairly complete roster with very few weaknesses once they're done with their offseason moves.
Here's a look at where things stand by position as of March 17, along with some thoughts on where the

The San Francisco 49ers have been known as a team that has built throughout the draft in the Kyle Shanahan era, which has led to seasoned success throughout the head coach's tenure, with the organization reaching the NFC Championship Game three times over the past four seasons.
However, among the several draft hits that have propelled their roster to one of the league's best, there have been several mistakes that set the organization back at the time.
With the NFL Draft approaching next month, and the 49ers having another integral draft for their future success, let's revisit the five biggest draft mistakes of the Shanahan-Lynch era thus far.
