Bigger role could await 49ers CB Darrell Luter Jr. in 2024

By David Bonilla
Feb 27

Darrell Luter Jr. appeared in seven games this past season, his first in the NFL. However, the San Francisco 49ers cornerback saw action in only 64 defensive snaps during his rookie campaign, all of which came later in the season. Forty-four of these snaps were in the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams, a game primarily featuring backup players. He was notably absent during the 49ers' three playoff contests. Luter started the season on the physically-unable-to-perform list due to a hyperextended knee suffered in the offseason, stalling his progress after displaying promising signs early on. If you feel like you've been here before, it's because you have. Back in March 2020, roughly around the time the global economy closed down for a while, the 49ers traded DT DeForest Buckner to the Colts for a first-round pick, in lieu of extending him, allowing them to draft his replacement in the following draft (South Carolina's Javon Kinlaw), and extend a few other key players in Arik Armstead and Jimmie Ward. Fast forward to 2024, and the same conversations are now taking place over Brandon Aiyuk, as the decision over whether to extend the young WR

49ers among teams proposing to push back NFL trade deadline

By David Bonilla
Feb 28

Things get hectic in the NFL around Halloween with the trade deadline typically falling around that time. According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the San Francisco 49ers are among six NFL teams proposing to postpone the chaos of the deadline by two weeks—from Week 8 to Week 10. The other teams favoring this change are the Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions. "Our professional sports league has the earliest trade deadline by far," Browns general manager Andrew Berry told CBS Sports, pointing out that the NFL's trade deadline occurs at about 45 percent through the
