49ers Pick in Mock Drafts: Jared Goff still leads while Myles Jack returns to top 3

Cal QB Jared Goff, who the
San Francisco 49ers are working out today in Berkeley along with several Cal wide receivers, remains the team's overwhelming projected pick among mock drafts in next month's NFL Draft. Goff has led our survey, now consisting of 100 mock drafts, for three weeks straight and has been the favorite projection for the 49ers' seventh overall selection for much longer than that. Although, his percentage has dropped slightly from 57.9 percent to 55 percent.
The top two players
remain the same as last week, with the majority of mocks having the 49ers selecting Goff and
North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz coming in a distant second.
UCLA OLB Myles Jack returns to the top three after being pushed out last week. This time, he shares the number three spot with
Ohio State DE Joey Bosa.
Quarterbacks make up 79 percent of the projections for the 49ers, a slight drop from 83 percent last week.
Why even report data from mock drafts other than to see where analysts and the media see players going? Last year, an overwhelming percentage of them had the 49ers taking
Arik Armstead out of Oregon with their first round selection. While that actually happened, they were able to do so after trading down a few spots.

John Lynch: Brock Purdy continuing to evaluate options, 49ers still expect 6-month recovery
There was concern that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy might require reconstruction of the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the elbow of his throwing arm rather than a repair, lengthening his recovery from about six months to maybe a year. However, nothing has led the 49ers to believe the more extensive procedure is required.
Purdy suffered the injury during Sunday's NFC Championship Game when Eagles pass rusher Haason Reddick hit his arm in the first quarter. He returned to the game in the second half after backup Josh Johnson was ruled out with a concussion, but Purdy could not throw the football, attempting just one pass after the injury.

Top 5 49ers free agents that should return in 2023
By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers faced another disappointing ending to the season with a 31-7 loss in the NFC Championship Game to the Philadelphia Eagles, marking the second consecutive year that the 49ers have lost in that outcome.
Now, they face 25 unrestricted free agents, while only having about $16 million in cap space, meaning they'll have to make several tough decisions, including potential restructures with current players.
With that said, who are the top five free agents that the 49ers should bring back for 2023?
HM: K Robbie Gould
Robbie Gould has been consistent for the 49ers, although the level of play has dropped since his stellar years in 2017 and 2018.
However, Gould's value comes in the postseason, where the
Orlovsky defends not having 49ers legend Joe Montana among his top-5 all-time QBs
I want to preface this by stating that I enjoy Dan Orlovsky's breakdowns and often find him insightful. However, the ESPN analyst presented a hot take this week that is sure to attract its share of scrutiny. It even did so among Orlovsky's ESPN colleagues.
It's difficult to forget that time David Carr tried, much to the astonishment of his NFL Network colleagues, to explain why Joe Montana wasn't a top-10 quarterback of the Super Bowl era. The analyst was, unsurprisingly, bombarded with criticism for making such a highly-debatable statement.
Orlovsky finds himself in a similar situation, throwing out his own version of the take when it comes to his top five
49ers Notebook: Mike McGlinchey hopes to stay in the Bay; Jimmie Ward reflects on his time with 49ers; A Jimmy G sighting; Nick Bosa describes injury vs. Eagles; A Joe Staley - Kayvon Thibodeaux Twitter battle
The end of the 2022 season brings a whole new set of questions for the San Francisco 49ers -- questions that will start to get answered in the weeks and months ahead after looming large in the locker room following their NFC Championship loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
The 49ers have a number of players slated for free agency and will have to make some tough decisions on who will stay and who will go. Two of those players -- offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey and defensive back Jimmie Ward -- spoke about their futures on Sunday while also reflecting on their time with the 49ers.
We'll talk about what McGlinchey and Ward said Sunday, as well as a number of other topics in this version of 49ers Notebook. We'll also dive into what happened to Nick Bosa
