MSU QB Connor Cook will have private workout for 49ers

Mar 16, 2016 at 5:04 PM--

Earlier today, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers were among the teams that met with Michigan State QB Connor Cook at the Spartans' pro day. 49ers regional scout Steve Rubio and outside linebackers coach Jason Tarver were scheduled to represent team at the pro day today while much of the remainder of San Francisco's staff, including head coach Chip Kelly, was in attendance at San Jose State's pro day.

Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that, according to Cook himself, the 49ers, along with the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins, will have private workouts with the former Spartan quarterback.

"Cook told reporters he will have private workouts in East Lansing with the 49ers, Cowboys and Dolphins," confirms Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle.

While Kelly stated today that he has been communicating with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a trade is still a possibility. Regardless of how that plays out, San Francisco may still be in the market for a quarterback of the future.

The 6-foot-4 Cook completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 9,194 yards, 71 touchdowns, and 22 interceptions over his college career for the Spartans. He is the 2015 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner, was First-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten QB of The Year last year, and came in ninth place in Heisman Trophy voting.

Cook has won the Big Ten Championship twice (2013, 2015), earning the MVP award in each of those games, and led his team to a 2014 Rose Bowl championship, where he was also the MVP, and a 2015 Cotton Bowl championship.

Iron sharpens iron. While Trent Williams named Nick Bosa and a formidable defensive line as one of his many reasons for wanting to join the San Francisco 49ers, Bosa is looking forward to facing the team's new offensive tackle. That hasn't happened yet. NFL players can't work together in an official capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They can't even enter team facilities. Some have tried to take part in player-organized workouts. The NFLPA recently advised against that practice with the virus popping up among several teams,

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers are in no danger of losing last season's breakout running back, Raheem Mostert, anytime soon. He doesn't become an unrestricted free agent until 2022. Fourth-year wideout Kendrick Bourne, however, is scheduled to become a free agent next year after signing a one-year tender in April. The 49ers have had discussions about contract extensions for both players, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. "I know extensions for Mostert and Bourne have been discussed," Barrows wrote in this week's mailbag

49ers Have All the Leverage and Should Just Say No to Paying George Kittle What He Wants

By Levin T. Black
Jun 27, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers and star tight end George Kittle are currently working on a contract extension. The two sides have been for awhile. No one outside of the franchise knows how close the two sides are. What is known is the type of money Kittle is seeking. Kittle wants to be paid like a top offensive tackle or wide receiver. His agent went public with this info nearly a month ago. Since then there has been silence from both sides. They could be far apart. Heck, they could have already agreed considering the team managed to keep DeForest Buckner's permission to seek a trade and head coach Kyle Shanahan's extension secrets for MONTHS. It wouldn't be surprising if they aren't close however. This is because the 49ers hold every ounce of leverage in this situation
