Eagles move to the draft spot behind the 49ers

Mar 9, 2016 at 9:18 AM--

According to a report by Albert Breer of NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded away LB Kiko Alonso, CB Byron Maxwell, and their 13th overall selection in next month's NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins for their pick. Who is this San Francisco 49ers related? That pick happens to be the eighth overall selection, just one spot behind San Francisco.

If the 49ers have a desire to trade down in the first round, the team now has to figure out how the Eagles, and not the Dolphins, are going to pick and determine which teams may want to jump ahead of Philadelphia. Also interesting is that Philadelphia happens to be the former home of new 49ers head coach Chip Kelly, who may have a little insight into the thinking of his former team.

Colts LB Darius Leonard was happy to see 49ers move away from early-game run success

By Kirk Larrabee

Early in their 30-18 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night, the San Francisco 49ers looked like they were poised for a big evening on offense when they gashed the Colts' defense with a strong running attack on the opening drive. But things changed dramatically after that, which came as a pleasant surprise to Colts All-Pro linebacker Darius Leonard. The 49ers established the run early, with running back Elijah Mitchell gaining 57 yards on five carries on an eight-play, 78-yard drive that ended with the 49ers taking a 6-0 lead on a 14-yard Mitchell touchdown run. But not long after that, the 49ers all but disappeared on offense until scoring their second touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter. The 49ers added two more field goals before the end

John Lynch: 49ers learning from draft hits and misses; Aaron Banks, Ambry Thomas will contribute

A lot is riding on the selection of Trey Lance. The future of the San Francisco 49ers — and likely head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch — depends on the rookie quarterback developing into an impact player. The NFL Draft has seemingly been a crapshoot for the Niners. For every Nick Bosa, there is a Solomon Thomas or Reuben Foster. There have been George Kittles and Fred Warners. However, selections like Dante Pettis severely impact evaluations of recent draft classes. The jury is still out on last year's first-rounders, Javon Kinlaw and Brandon Aiyuk. The latter's lack of involvement this season has been baffling. The 49ers have hit

Week 5's Golden Nugget Award winner goes to defensive tack D.J. Jones. The other nominees for this week's award are quarterback Trey Lance for his first NFL start, defensive end Nick Bosa, linebacker Fred Warner for his dominance on defense, and punter Mitch Wishnowsky for his 48.5 punt average in the loss against the Arizona Cardinals, dropping the San Francisco 49ers to 2-3. The former Ole Miss Rebel did not have a dominant performance in the game but his sack on Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray in the first quarter had Twitter erupted. OhMyGoodness DJ
