According to ESPN, once midnight hit on the east coast, the 49ers were one of the more aggressive teams at setting up Friday visits for free agents. They have confirmed that the 49ers are expecting a visit from linebacker Adalius Thomas, which was expected.

The 49ers, along with the Browns and Titans, have also been in communication with cornerback Nate Clements.

No team has more cap space available than San Francisco.

The door hasn't completely shut on the possibility of Jimmy Garoppolo being the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran quarterback hasn't practiced this week after sustaining a calf injury during Week 4's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Things appear to be trending in the direction of rookie Trey Lance making his first career NFL start. Garoppolo hasn't given up hope of playing, though. All eyes are on the status of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The team is holding its final practice of the week, and it's the last chance for Garoppolo to see if he can go for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. If not, that would likely mean rookie Trey Lance is getting his first NFL start. "I think today is critical," general manager John Lynch said this morning. "If it's not today, then we go with Trey." The San Francisco 49ers hosted linebacker Mychal Kendricks on a visit, per ESPN's Field Yates. The team initially signed the veteran on August 16. He landed on injured reserve on August 24 due to what was described as a "turf-toe sprain," and the team released him on September 2 with an injury settlement. Yates reports that a reunion might be on the horizon. The 49ers hosted LB Mychal Kendricks on a visit.
