Schefter: 49ers, NFL teams may only be allowed 75 to 80 players at training camp

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that NFL teams may be required to limit the number of players who participate in training camps across the league when they begin later this month. At least, they are scheduled to start later this month. That would mean as many as 10 to 15 players from each team's 90-player roster might have to sit out meetings and on-field work. The idea is, of course, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as the NFL continues to search for ways to increase the safety of its players and the chances of an uninterrupted season. "One source said he believed it's likely that teams will go to camp with 80-man rosters," writes Schefter,

3 49ers training camp nuggets from ESPN

ESPN recently took a look at all 32 NFL teams and named three training camp "nuggets" for each. What did that include for the San Francisco 49ers? It all starts with the Super Bowl LIV loss in February to the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN notes that San Francisco will try to become the third NFC team to lose the Super Bowl and return to the big game the next season. Only the 1971 Dallas Cowboys and the 1974 Vikings have accomplished that among the conference teams. Dallas ended up winning Super Bowl VI against the Miami Dolphins while Minnesota lost Super Bowl IX to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Writes ESPN: "The past few teams

Arik Armstead continues offseason training with a familiar ex-49ers defender

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead is working hard this offseason to prove that his team-leading 10-sack 2019 campaign was no fluke, and after signing a lucrative five-year deal to remain with the San Francisco 49ers. It looks like Armstead is training with a familiar face, too. San Jose-area photographer Pierre Whitsey comes through again with some photos from San Jose State on Monday, showing Armstead training with former teammate DeForest Buckner. The 49ers in March traded Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for the No. 13 overall pick, which, after trading down one spot, ended up becoming the selection of Buckner's replacement — defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.
