Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers are meeting with Miami tight end Clive Walford at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock has spoken highly of Walford, who is 6'4" and 258 lbs, and called him "the most explosive tight end in this year's draft."
At Miami, in addition to the normal tight end position, Walford lined up in the slot and out wide. He has great speed for a player of his size.
Walford had 44 receptions for 676 yards with seven touchdown receptions in 2014. He had 14 touchdown receptions, averaging 14.5 yards per catch, over his career at Miami.
General manager Trent Baalke said yesterday that tight end Vernon Davis would return to the team. In 2014, Davis had career low receiving yards (245) and tied a career low in touchdowns (2). He also had the fewest receptions since his rookie season with the 49ers in 2006.
The 49ers have the 15th overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.

It's a classic soap opera, one you can always count on to give you plenty of drama, complete with heroes, villains, and a plethora of twists and turns. No, I'm not talking about General Hospital. This show isn't taking place in a fictional city called Port Charles (don't ask how I know that name), but rather in the real-life Bay Area city known as Santa Clara.
Of course, I'm speaking about the quarterback theater of the San Francisco 49ers. It's a quarterback room that once boasted back-to-back Hall of Famers, followed by a 3-time Pro Bowler.
49ers seek $120 million from NFL for Levi's Stadium upgrades amid Super Bowl bid
Levi's Stadium is slated to host 2026 World Cup events. In addition, the San Francisco 49ers hope their home venue can host a second NFL title game—Super Bowl 60. That would come a decade after Levi's Stadium last hosted the big game, Super Bowl 50. The NFL is expected to announce the sites for Super Bowl 60 and 61 in May.
49ers CEO Jed York hopes to spruce up Levi's Stadium before either of those events by securing $120 million from the NFL's stadium fund.
"Generally, those are approved, and they go through committees, so I feel fairly comfortable that will be approved," York said Tuesday at the NFL owners' meetings in Arizona.
