Jason Tarver joins 49ers as senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach

ESPN's Jim Trotter is reporting that Jason Tarver will be joining the San Francisco 49ers as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.

Tarver has been the defensive coordinator with the Raiders since 2012. In 2011, he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Stanford. From 2001 to 2010, he was on the 49ers' staff, where he served as an offensive quality control coach, assistant running backs coach and offensive assistant, and outside linebackers coach.

He served with Tomsula for four years with the 49ers and coached a young Patrick Willis.

The New York Giants must have been impressed with San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters, who is considered one of the brightest executive minds in the NFL and a favorite to become an NFL general manager soon. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, on Thursday, the Giants will conduct a second interview with Peters for their vacant general manager job following the retirement of Dave Gettleman. Peters' first interview with the Giants took place on Monday. Pelissero adds that Peters is among three finalists for the job opening.
