Jason Tarver joins 49ers as senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach

ESPN's Jim Trotter is reporting that Jason Tarver will be joining the San Francisco 49ers as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.

Tarver has been the defensive coordinator with the Raiders since 2012. In 2011, he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Stanford. From 2001 to 2010, he was on the 49ers' staff, where he served as an offensive quality control coach, assistant running backs coach and offensive assistant, and outside linebackers coach.

He served with Tomsula for four years with the 49ers and coached a young Patrick Willis.

Jason Verrett's impressive comeback fuels 49ers' 11th-ranked secondary from PFF

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett always believed he would return to form. For the rest of us, it was a delightful surprise. After all, before this past season, five of his six NFL seasons ended on injured reserve. His one other healthy season came in 2015, which earned him a Pro Bowl nod. 49ers' Richard Sherman reacts to fan comment that Jets can't have K'Waun Williams or Jason Verrett

K'Waun Williams is one of nearly 40 San Francisco 49ers players scheduled to become free agents. And now, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have their former defensive coordinator to contend with in free agency. On Thursday, the New York Jets named Robert Saleh as their new head coach, and there is some concern from the 49ers fanbase that many of the free agents on the defensive side of the football might follow their former coach. One fan stated on Twitter that Saleh could have a number of the 49ers defenders, including cornerback Richard Sherman.
