San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is dealing with a shin contusion and has been limited during practice this week. That probably won't keep him out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, though. "I'll be ready for Sunday," Samuel said after practice. "We're just taking our time. Just had a shin contusion, so just taking it slow, but we'll be ready." That's good news for the Niners. Samuel is the team's leading receiver, and his 979 receiving yards rank second among all NFL receivers this season. After struggling through injuries last season, the wideout has made a significant leap in his third year. Many, including Samuel, credit one player's influence for that leap as an offensive weapon. Samuel doesn't typically give long

The NFL announced that San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell has been nominated for this week's FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week award. The rookie rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown on 27 attempts (4.9 avg.) in the 49ers' 34-26 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The other nominees are Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette (100 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 17 attempts against the Colts) and Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon (165 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries against the Steelers). In April, San Francisco made Mitchell a sixth-round draft pick out of Louisiana. He leads the team with 693 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 143 carries through eight game appearances and seven starts this

Jimmie Ward shares details of 49ers meeting that led to defensive turnaround

It looked like a different San Francisco 49ers defensive on the field Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams, especially compared to the embarrassing performance displayed a week earlier against the Arizona Cardinals. The Niners defense held the potent Rams offense to just 10 points in the primetime shellacking. Following the home loss to an injury-plagued Cardinals squad and before the latest game, the defensive captains, which includes Ward, got together to figure out how to turn things around. At 3-5, something needed to change for the 49ers' playoff hopes to remain alive. "We ended up having a meeting with the team captains on defense," safety Jimmie Ward explained on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "I can't really speak too much on the offense.

Elijah Mitchell won't practice; 49ers open practice windows for Dre Greenlaw, Jaquiski Tartt

On Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that rookie running back Elijah Mitchell was undergoing a procedure to repair a finger fracture sustained in the team's Week 10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. However, the coach wasn't eliminating the possibility that Mitchell, the 49ers' leading rusher, might play this weekend against the Jacksonville Jaguars or even practice today. Shanahan told reporters today that Mitchell will not take part in the first practice of the week, but the coach believes he will be good for Sunday's game. "He just had [the procedure] yesterday," Shanahan said. "Today, he's not good enough to practice. I think he'll go Sunday, but we've got to see day to day." Jeff Wilson Jr., Trenton Cannon, and
