Sep 7, 2014 at 2:12 PM--

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver went down with an injury at the end of the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys. He eventually got on his feet, but looked a little woozy.

Rookie cornerback Dontae Johnson replaced him on the field.

The 49ers had already lost starter Tramaine Brock earlier in the game.

Update:

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is reporting that Culliver is being evaluated for a head and neck injury and that his return is questionable.

Update 2:

Maiocco reports that Culliver has a concussion and has been ruled out of this game.

Offensive lineman Justin Skule is back with the San Francisco 49ers after being waived last week. He went unclaimed and reverted back to the team's injured reserve list. Skule will not count against the 90-man (91, really, with Alfredo Gutiérrez not counting) roster but his $894,887 salary will count against the cap. The team used the vacant roster spot to sign offensive lineman Senio Kelemete to a one-year deal. Skule suffered a torn ACL during practice on Monday, June 7. Safety Tarvarius Moore was injured during the same session, suffering a torn Achilles. Last week, he underwent successful surgery to repair the damage. San Francisco made

Schein ranks 49ers as top worst-to-first candidate but questions quarterbacks

Adam Schein of NFL Network recently ranked the NFL's top worst-to-first candidates. The columnist went division-by-division and examined last season's last-place finishers, ordering each of the eight squads based on their chances to win their respective divisions in 2021. The team with the best chance, in Schein's mind, is the San Francisco 49ers. With a relatively clean bill of health this season, he feels the Niners should be much improved. After all, it wasn't that long ago that head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad played in the Super Bowl. "The return of Nick Bosa, in particular, changes everything for the defense," Schein noted.

Can 49ers Trey Lance Be The First Rookie To Win A Super Bowl As Starting Quarterback?

By Marc Adams
Jun 4, 2021

As hard as it is to believe, no rookie has ever won the Super Bowl as a starting quarterback. You would think that after 55 years of Super Bowls, at least one rookie quarterback would have hoisted the Lombardi Trophy following his team's victory. But it has not happened. In fact, no rookie quarterback has even led his team to the game. None. In 55 years! A few have come close. Only three have led their teams as far as the conference championship game. In 2004, Ben Roethlisberger led the Pittsburgh Steelers to the AFC Championship Game. Mark Sanchez took the New York Jets to the AFC Championship
