49ers-Eagles: Goal line stand turns the tide after shaky 49ers start

By Kirk Larrabee

If there was one significant turning point in the San Francisco 49ers' 17-11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it was most likely the unexpected goal line stand members of the defense produced after a 91-yard pass put their backs against the wall in the second quarter. Down 3-0 to the Eagles with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the 49ers had a long field behind them after a punt from Mitch Wishnowsky pinned the Eagles at their own three-yard line. But on the first play after the punt, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went deep for wide receiver Quez Watkins, who went for 91 yards before being brought down by safety Jaquiski Tartt and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir at the 49ers' six-yard line. A pass interference call on cornerback Josh Norman two plays

Kocurek excited for return of Nick Bosa, Dee Ford after 49ers pass rushers reached 'lowest of lows'

It has been a rigorous offseason for San Francisco 49ers pass rushers Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. Both exited last season early due to injuries. First, a back injury sidelined Ford after Week 1. Then, during Week 2, Bosa exited after suffering a torn ACL on that awful MetLife Stadium field. What followed were two hellacious comebacks. But, the good news is that the end is in sight. Bosa and Ford will retake the field when the Niners open their season against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday. Bosa showed off videos during his rehab, and the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year looked ahead of schedule during the process. Bosa's coaches never questioned the defensive end's work ethic. They know the pass rusher can accomplish whatever he sets his mind

Dan Campbell's admission reveals how Trey Lance is impacting Lions' prep work for 49ers

If the San Francisco 49ers had not drafted Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick, the Detroit Lions probably wouldn't be too worried about whoever was backing up Jimmy Garoppolo, assuming Garoppolo remained with the team. Instead, the Lions would be focused on stopping the veteran quarterback and him alone. There wouldn't be many thoughts about Nate Sudfeld or whoever sits behind him on the depth chart. The Niners did draft Lance, though. Then head coach Kyle Shanahan showed off an unorthodox game plan in the team's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, swapping between Garoppolo and Lance in the middle of drives. Maybe it was just to give Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell something to think about as he prepared for his Week 1 matchup against the 49ers. If that

49ers-Lions Injury Report: Trey Lance progressing well; Emmanuel Moseley, Jalen Hurd don't practice

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 contest against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Trey Lance continues to look good throwing footballs during the portions of practice that are open to the media. The rookie quarterback is recovering from a chipped bone in his finger, an injury suffered on August 29 against the Las Vegas Raiders. For now, things appear to be trending in the direction of Lance being available on Sunday. He was limited today. No brace, no splinter, no problem it appears for QB Trey Lance ahead of Week 1.
