In 2012, Rogers played in all 16 games and had 56 tackles, a sack and an interception.
According to resident cap expert Jason Hurley, Rogers' 2013 salary cap figure is a little over $7.3 million, the second highest on the team. The 49ers would create $4.5 million in savings by cutting him.
The 49ers acquired cornerback Eric Wright in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday. That added to an already crowded group of cornerbacks who will have to compete during training camp. In addition to Rogers, the team also had Tarell Brown, Chris Culliver, Perrish Cox and Tramaine Brock. They added Nnamdi Asomugha to that group during the offseason.
Cornerback will likely be the most interesting position battle during the team's practices, which begin next week.
