Steve Young: 49ers' best chance at a title may have passed

By David Bonilla
May 15

Steve Young believes the San Francisco 49ers may have missed their best opportunity for the organization's sixth Super Bowl victory. It was an uphill battle for the 49ers in the playoffs, requiring two comeback victories against perceived weaker opponents before suffering an overtime defeat in Las Vegas against the Kansas City Chiefs. For various reasons, the Hall of Fame quarterback feels that it was head coach Kyle Shanahan's best opportunity to silence his critics and finally emerge victorious in the NFL title game. Now, it's too early to predict how the 2024 season will unfold. The Niners could be just as competitive as last season. They might find themselves at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, February 9, 2025, competing against

That distinction goes to the Super Bowl runner-up. The NFL unveiled its complete 2024 schedule on Wednesday. When asked which Super Bowl participant has the best chance of returning to the big game in the upcoming season, Fox Sports analyst Craig Carton didn't hesitate to respond, "San Francisco." "They're the best team in football, and it's not even close," he continued. "They're the best team, not just in football, they're the best team in the NFC. There's three or four teams that are obviously going to give them a

Brandon Staley on challenges of facing the 49ers offense, role with the team

By David Bonilla
May 22

San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach Brandon Staley has long admired Kyle Shanahan and his team from afar. When given the opportunity to join Shanahan's coaching staff this offseason, he eagerly accepted. Staley spent a season in the NFC West as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, so he knows firsthand how challenging it is to play against a Shanahan-led offense. Now, instead of strategizing against the 49ers' playmakers, he will help evolve the team and contribute to their quest for that elusive Super Bowl title. One player Staley is relieved to have on his side is running back Christian McCaffrey, whom the 49ers traded for in 2022. "Well, Christian, he's one of the toughest covers in the league," Staley told reporters on
