Dennis Georgatos, writing for the Sporting News, reports San Francisco 49ers CB Mike Rumph is fighting to retain his roster spot. He will compete with CB Sammy Davis and CB Derrick Johnson for a backup cornerback job and CB Walt Harris is ahead of all three.

Don’t be shocked if Niners former first-round pick Mike Rumph doesn’t survive the team’s final cut. In addition to falling behind newcomer Walt Harris in the battle for one of the team’s starting CB roles, Rumph is a product of the pre-Mike Nolan regime, and we’re told the current organization has a real bias in favor of players it has drafted or signed.
Baas could push for playing time at right guard

Heitmann will enter camp as No. 1 center
Dennis Georgatos, writing for the Sporting News, reports San Francisco 49ers C Jeremy Newberry (knee) has been informed by head coach Mike Nolan that he will enter training camp as the No. 2 center because he can not practice on a full-time basis. OG Eric Heitmann will have the starting job. Newberry will get the opportunity to compete for the No. 1 role.
Newberry will be restricted to one workout per day
