Harris could be challenged for left cornerback job

Dennis Georgatos, writing for the Sporting News, reports San Francisco 49ers CB Walt Harris could face competition for the starting left cornerback position left open by the retirement of CB Ahmed Plummer. Harris is the leading candidate to replace him, but could be challenged in training camp by CBs Sammy Davis, Mike Rumph, Bruce Thornton and Derrick Johnson.

Newberry will battle Heitmann during training camp

Dennis Georgatos, writing for the Sporting News, reports San Francisco 49ers C Jeremy Newberry (knee) will battle OG Eric Heitmann during training camp. Heitmann took the majority of first-team snaps this spring after Newberry has surgery on his right knee.
