Glenn Dorsey reaches agreement with 49ers

Minutes after learning that safety Dashon Goldson had reached a 5 year, $41.25 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement with former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey.


Dorsey was drafted in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He was the fifth overall selection. Over his career, he has had 238 tackles, 4 sacks and one forced fumble.

2021 salary cap floor raised to $180 million, giving 49ers a little wiggle room

The San Francisco 49ers have been working this offseason with the assumption that the 2021 salary cap would end up at the floor of $175 million. "We're operating under the premise of the floor, which is 175," general manager John Lynch told reporters in January. "We felt like that was best to operate off of that and kind of formulate our plans off of that. If it's anything on top, that's gravy for us. I think that's how a lot of teams are operating." It was always assumed that the salary cap would end up being higher, possibly as high as between $180 million and $185 million. But it's better to work with the floor and avoid any surprises. We have just one sample of a full season with Jimmy Garoppolo as a starter. During that 2019 season, the quarterback led the San Francisco 49ers to 13 regular-season wins and a playoff run ending with a Super Bowl appearance. Outside of that, Garoppolo was a backup in New England and has battled to stay on the field due to injuries in San Francisco. Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus recently ranked every NFL team's quarterback situation by need. After all, the quarterback can be the most important position on a team, and those that have elite ones can have longer championship windows.
