The San Francisco 49ers have officially announced the trade of Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs. They even started a #THANKYOUALEX hash tag on Twitter.
At the end of February, it was
revealed that the 49ers had a trade deal in place with the Chiefs. The 49ers will get a second round selection this year and a conditional pick next year.
The deal could not be officially announced until the start of the new NFL year, which began today at 1 PM.

McCloud has been dealing with a rib injury. The 49ers had already ruled him out for Sunday's game. The receiver will need to miss at least three additional games before he can return.

The San Francisco 49ers have announced two roster moves ahead of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Wide receiver Chris Conley and safety Erik Harris have both been promoted to the active roster from the team's practice squad. Both are standard elevations, meaning they will be promoted for the game against the Eagles, and then revert to the practice squad.
Conley, who will wear number 84, is being elevated for the third time this season. A player can only be promoted to the active roster, from the practice squad, three times during the season. After the third elevation, the team can only sign the player to the active roster. Otherwise, he will stay on the practice squad for the duration of the season.

Earlier today, ESPN reported that San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was expected to be fined for the tackle on wide receiver DeVonta Smith in last weekend's 42-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The tackle led to the much-discussed sideline scrum between the 49ers linebacker and Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro.
Both Greenlaw and Dom DiSandro were ejected from the game.
