The San Francisco 49ers have officially announced the trade of Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs. They even started a #THANKYOUALEX hash tag on Twitter.
At the end of February, it was
revealed that the 49ers had a trade deal in place with the Chiefs. The 49ers will get a second round selection this year and a conditional pick next year.
The deal could not be officially announced until the start of the new NFL year, which began today at 1 PM.

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the promotions of two assistant coaches — Mike McDaniel and DeMeco Ryans. McDaniel is being promoted from run-game coordinator to offensive coordinator, while Ryans is being promoted from linebackers coach to defensive coordinator, replacing Robert Saleh.
News of Ryans' promotion was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media soon after the New York Jets' hiring of Saleh as head coach.
McDaniel's name was being linked to offensive coordinator openings around the NFL, including the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles
