Dilfer did not force trade

May 6, 2006 at 8:39 AM--

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said QB Trent Dilfer, who was recently traded to the San Francisco 49ers, did not force the Browns to trade him. Savaage added, "He never forced his way out of Cleveland. Trent never came to me and said, 'Hey, I've got to get out of here." He also said the relationship between Dilfer and offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon played no part in the trade.

One year after trade, 49ers continue to strike gold with Christian McCaffrey

By Kirk Larrabee

It's safe to say the San Francisco 49ers' decision to trade for running back Christian McCaffrey in 2022 has worked out about as well as it possibly could have to this point. Not every trade has turned out that way for the 49ers in recent years, to say the least, but the move to acquire McCaffrey currently ranks as one of the best moves the team has made since general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan came on board in 2017. McCaffrey has become the focal point on a star-studded offense and is proving on a weekly basis that he is more than worthy of the price the 49ers paid to acquire him (a second, a third, a fourth, and a fifth-round pick) from the Carolina Panthers on October 20,

Florio: 49ers' Brock Purdy not a franchise QB because of his "weird" name

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 23

The San Francisco 49ers are cruising through the beginning of the regular season, winning each of their first three games, with a home bout against the 0-2 Arizona Cardinals next on the docket. In his return from a torn UCL sustained in last year's NFC Championship Game, quarterback Brock Purdy has picked up right where he left off, continuing his streak of remaining unbeaten in games he's started and finished, which has increased to eight in a row. The success from 2022 has cemented Purdy as the franchise quarterback, as the 49ers traded away former franchise option Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys, but some aren't as confident in the 2022 seventh-round pick. Amongst them is Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, who shared a unique reason for not

Kyle Shanahan not surprised by Brock Purdy's mastery of the 49ers offense

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has a lot of trust in his second-year quarterback, Brock Purdy. That showed Sunday afternoon during the 35-16 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Purdy turned in an impressive performance, one for the 49ers record books. Shanahan spoke to reporters via a conference call on Monday afternoon. The coach was asked how he feels about his quarterback's play now that he's had time to review the film from the Week 4 contest more thoroughly. "A lot like I think we felt last night," Shanahan responded. "He was pretty good. He made all the right throws, and the O-line played well, gave him some good time, some real good pockets. I thought all the eligibles, receivers, tight ends, running backs played well, but he was awesome

Potential trap game? Talanoa Hufanga, 49ers not looking past Cardinals, Joshua Dobbs

By David Bonilla

Everyone is excited about the Week 5 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, two Super Bowl hopefuls in the NFC. However, the Niners have a game scheduled before that clash of conference titans. San Francisco will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, and there is no way head coach Kyle Shanahan or his players are looking past their next opponent. After all, the Cardinals are coming off a stunning 28-16 win over the Cowboys. "If I told you we were looking ahead to Dallas, we'd be in a bad situation," safety Talanoa Hufanga said Tuesday morning on KNBR's "Murph and Mac" show. "I got great people around me, great coaches that are prepping us for Arizona. It's a great team. "They've beat Dallas. I know they lost to the Giants
