Just minutes before the kickoff of the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers, the power at Candlestick Park has gone out. The stadium is completely dark and the kickoff will likely be delayed.
There was not an earthquake or any disturbance of any kind that is thought to have caused the power outage. It looked as though there was an explosion, perhaps the power transformer that preceded the outage.
The auxiliary lights are on and the fans are remaining calm.
