49ers sign QB Josh McCown

Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) of CSN Bay Area reports on twitter that the San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback Josh McCown.

McCown has spent time with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers. He started 13 games in 2004 for the Cardinals and 9 for the Raiders in 2007.

Over his NFL career, McCown has completed 610 of 1,058 passes for 6,584 yards, 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.

McCown played with the UFL's Hartford Colonial last year where he was league's leading passer with a rating of 79.3.

McCown will wear #9 with the 49ers and compete for the third quarterback spot on the team.

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, the Arizona Cardinals have signed defensive back Qwuantrezz Knight off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. The move comes as the Cardinals place safety Budda Baker on injured reserve. "Arizona was very interested in Knight after he was part of SF's cuts to get down to 53 players last month," Barrows noted in a tweet.
