49ers sign QB Josh McCown

Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) of CSN Bay Area reports on twitter that the San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback Josh McCown.

McCown has spent time with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers. He started 13 games in 2004 for the Cardinals and 9 for the Raiders in 2007.

Over his NFL career, McCown has completed 610 of 1,058 passes for 6,584 yards, 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.

McCown played with the UFL's Hartford Colonial last year where he was league's leading passer with a rating of 79.3.

McCown will wear #9 with the 49ers and compete for the third quarterback spot on the team.

Sanu, 31, is in his ninth NFL season after being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. Sanu spent four seasons with the Bengals before moving on to the Atlanta Falcons in 2016, where he remained until being traded to the New England Patriots in 2019. ESPN simulation has 49ers earning No. 1 seed but losing to Cowboys in playoffs

ESPN ran its annual simulation of the entire season based on its own Football Power Index (FPI). How did the San Francisco 49ers fare?
