49ers sign QB Josh McCown

Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) of CSN Bay Area reports on twitter that the San Francisco 49ers have signed quarterback Josh McCown.

McCown has spent time with the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers. He started 13 games in 2004 for the Cardinals and 9 for the Raiders in 2007.

Over his NFL career, McCown has completed 610 of 1,058 passes for 6,584 yards, 35 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.

McCown played with the UFL's Hartford Colonial last year where he was league's leading passer with a rating of 79.3.

McCown will wear #9 with the 49ers and compete for the third quarterback spot on the team.

The San Francisco 49ers are turning to a familiar face for a workout following injuries to two safeties, Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum. Hufanga suffered a torn ACL in Week 11, while Odum sustained a torn biceps on Thanksgiving.
