The San Francisco 49ers announced that exclusive-rights free agent Daniel Brunskill, an offensive lineman, has signed his one-year tender. The Niners tendered the one-year contract to Brunskill on March 12. The Atlanta Falcons signed Brunskill as an undrafted free agent out of San Diego State in 2017. He played for the San Diego Fleet of the now-defunct AAF league before signing with the 49ers on April 11, 2019. Brunskill, 27, has 30 game appearances and 23 starts through his two seasons in San Francisco. The versatile offensive lineman started all 16 games in 2020 and has experience at center, guard, and tackle. San Francisco also announced that Chase Harrell has been waived. The tight end signed a reserve/future contract with the team on January

NFL exec on 49ers: "I just don't buy Kyle Shanahan moving up all the way to three for Mac Jones"

Mike Sando of The Athletic has been doing his rounds around the league, asking about the San Francisco 49ers trading up to the No. 3 overall pick to select a quarterback. Even with the top two picks considered a lock—Trevor Lawrence to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson to the New York Jets—no one is really certain about the 49ers' plan. There is speculation—a lot of it. Because of his history with quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan, many feel San Francisco traded up for Mac Jones of Alabama. Two NFL executives who spoke to Sando can see that happening. Whether or not they agree with the potential selection is another story. "I've heard they are really seriously thinking of Mac Jones and it would blow my mind,"

D.J. Jones joined KNBR on Friday morning and discussed the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback situation, a topic that will be discussed ad nauseam until the draft later this month—and probably well beyond. That's because the 49ers now own the No. 3 overall pick, thanks to last week's trade. They also still have Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster and have stated that this latest development doesn't mean a divorce with the veteran quarterback is imminent. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch expect Garoppolo to be San Francisco's Week 1 starter. He will likely serve as a bridge quarterback until the younger player is ready to take over the reins—assuming Shanahan and Lynch hit on the pick. Jones knows the NFL is a business. These decisions

Joe Staley weighs in on the 49ers' QB situation

Former San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley, now retired, spoke with former NFL running back Michael Robinson during the latest NFL Total Access: The Locker Room podcast. Of course, the topic of the quarterback situation came up. Last week, the Niners traded up to the No. 3 spot in this year's draft. It is a given that the team is targeting its quarterback of the future. Of course, that signals the eventual departure of a locker-room favorite—Jimmy Garoppolo. If the 49ers are to be believed, the transition won't happen this year, though. The plan is to keep Garoppolo for the upcoming season, allowing the rookie—whoever he may be—to sit and learn for a year. The team freed up enough salary-cap space to afford the luxury of holding onto
