Why the 49ers need to quickly figure out their Brandon Aiyuk situation

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Oct 13

What the heck have the 49ers done with Brandon Aiyuk? That has been the primary question for this 2-3 San Francisco team since Week 1, when the promising receiver, who had an impressive rookie season, was out-snapped by free-agent addition Trent Sherfield 27-26. Drafted 25th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk burst into the spotlight last season, especially late in the year, catching 60 passes for 748 yards overall. In fact, in a six-game stretch from Weeks 7-15 (not including the two games he was on the COVID-19 list), the rookie averaged 94.7 receiving yards, catching 7.5 passes on 11.5 targets per game. The most important part: Aiyuk played on no lower than 76% of the offensive snaps during those weeks, which is a feat he's

Steve Young and Jerry Rice struggling to figure out 49ers' identity

Who are the 2021 San Francisco 49ers? Fans are still trying to figure out the team's identity. Maybe the Niners are still trying to figure that out themselves. We know head coach Kyle Shanahan would like the 49ers to own a punishing rushing attack. That hasn't happened. Some of that is due to injuries. The team lost starter Raheem Mostert for the season due to a knee injury suffered in Week 1. Jeff Wilson was lost before that but could return this season. JaMycal Hasty is just now returning from an injury of his own. That left a pair of rookies — Elijah Mitchell and Trey Sermon — to establish a rushing attack. However, even they have not been healthy. Right now, San Francisco is averaging 122 rushing yards per game, which is good enough to rank No. 12

49ers-Colts Injury Report: Trent Williams doubtful, Jimmy Garoppolo will start; Trey Lance, Maurice Hurst, Javon Kinlaw out

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Tackle Trent Williams, quarterback Trey Lance, and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw have missed three consecutive practices. Williams suffered an ankle sprain during the 49ers' Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Kyle Shanahan repeated what he said on Thursday, that the veteran tackle tweaked the injury during Monday's practice. The final decision on Williams will go all the way up to game time, said the coach. For now, he has been ruled "doubtful." Rookie Jaylon Moore will start if

Golden Nugget Award: This week's winner should excite the 49ers fanbase

Week 5's Golden Nugget Award winner goes to defensive tack D.J. Jones. The other nominees for this week's award are quarterback Trey Lance for his first NFL start, defensive end Nick Bosa, linebacker Fred Warner for his dominance on defense, and punter Mitch Wishnowsky for his 48.5 punt average in the loss against the Arizona Cardinals, dropping the San Francisco 49ers to 2-3. The former Ole Miss Rebel did not have a dominant performance in the game but his sack on Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray in the first quarter had Twitter erupted. OhMyGoodness DJ
