Rapoport weighs in on potential 49ers-Deebo Samuel contract extension this offseason

By David Bonilla

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel, in his third season with the San Francisco 49ers, is becoming a bonafide NFL star. The team can consider locking up their second-round pick in 2019 to a long-term deal starting this offseason. While the 49ers are focused on Saturday night's playoff bout with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, one NFL insider discussed the possibility of a 49ers-Samuel contract negotiation starting once their playoff run is over. "Deebo Samuel has emerged as one of the top weapons in the NFL," Ian Rapoport said Saturday on NFL Network, "and it sounds like he's about to get paid like one. Here's why. The San Francisco 49ers are among the most proactive teams when it comes to contract extensions. "Deebo Samuel [is] heading into the final

49ers-Packers: Kyle Shanahan wants Trey Lance to 'let it rip' while imitating Aaron Rodgers in practice

Trey Lance has a tough task this week. No, he is not expecting to start Saturday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. As part of the practice squad, the San Francisco 49ers rookie has to mimic future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the defense in practice. Lance's development has benefited from imitating opposing quarterbacks all season. Sometimes that is a versatile quarterback like Kyler Murray or Justin Fields. Other times, it is a more stationary passer, like Kirk Cousins. Lance studying Rodgers this week can only make him a better quarterback. "Aaron does a real good job of not making bad decisions and not turning the ball over," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters before Tuesday's practice. "But he also makes all the

The San Francisco 49ers have signed wide receiver KeeSean Johnson to a reserve/future contract, per the NFL transaction wire. The Arizona Cardinals made Johnson (6-1, 201) a sixth-round selection out of Fresno State in 2019. The 25-year-old has caught 36 passes for 360 yards with a touchdown through his first two NFL seasons. The Cardinals waived him on August 30, 2021. The Philadelphia Eagles signed Johnson to their practice squad on September 2, 2021. He appeared in their Wild Card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on January 16, a 31-15 loss. Johnson played two offensive snaps and 16 special teams snaps in the postseason appearance. The 49ers worked

Deebo Samuel doesn't even know how to define his role in 49ers' offense

By Brian Renick
Jan 14

49ers' wide receiver Deebo Samuel was named an AP 1st Team All-Pro for the first time in his young career on Friday. He is the first 49ers wide receiver to earn that honor since Terrell Owens earned his third nod back in 2002. There is no doubt that Deebo deserved the honor as he posted eye-popping stats during his 2021 campaign: 1st in yards per reception (18.2) 3rd in yards from scrimmage (1770) 5th in receiving yards (1405) 3rd amongst wide receivers in total touchdowns (14) Set an NFL record for rushing touchdowns by a receiver (8) It's hard to argue that Deebo wasn't the most valuable player on the 49ers' offense this season, and his versatility is largely the reason why. Not only was he the team's number one receiving
