49ers place Jalen Hurd on IR, activate Dontae Johnson ahead of Lions game

The San Francisco 49ers have placed Jalen Hurd on injured reserve. The third-year wide receiver is attempting to return from the ACL injury he suffered before the start of last season. While he appeared in one preseason game this year—an August 29 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders—he has yet to appear in a regular-season matchup. Being on injured reserve means Hurd will have to miss at least three games. That will make him eligible to return for Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers also activated cornerback Dontae Johnson from the practice squad to make him available for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions. That could mean that starting cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (knee) is unlikely to be available. He was listed as "doubtful" on the

Steve Young says 49ers' late game fade in Detroit may be "a sign of immaturity"

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, and current ESPN analyst, Steve Young spoke on KNBR Radio on Wednesday, as he does each week during the NFL season. Among the other things he discussed on the Tolbert, Krueger and Brooks Show, which included labeling the 49ers quarterback situation as "fraught with terror," considering how it plays out, was how the 49ers finished the game against the Detroit Lions last Sunday. Specifically, how they went from having such a huge lead to almost losing that lead. Much has been discussed on this topic already, and debates have been held around the question of whether coach

16 nerve-wracking 49ers post-game observations

Everyone ok? I'm just checking to make sure. The San Francisco 49ers won another game in the final couple of minutes, testing the blood pressure of fans everywhere. This time the win came against the Philadelphia Eagles, after a tough, close, physical game. Bay Area cardiologists have been busy these first couple of weeks since the 2021 NFL season began. The final score was 17-11, but it was much closer than that, and early on, it didn't look good for the 49ers. Here are my nerve-wracking post-game observations from the 49ers week two win: Despite looking putrid, at times, the 49ers offense still performed well. Jimmy Garoppolo was bad, good, bad and good. That throw to Deebo Samuel to set up the first touchdown was

Seahawks the only NFC West team to lose a game after two weeks of play

By David Bonilla

The NFC West is on a roll, which isn't necessarily great news for the San Francisco 49ers when it comes to the success of their division rivals. Through two weeks of NFL play this season, the NFC West is 7-1 as a whole. That, of course, includes the 49ers' Week 2 17-11 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. The Seattle Seahawks became the first NFC West to lose a game, falling to the Tennessee Titans 33-30 in Week 2. The Los Angeles Rams beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-24 and the Arizona Cardinals edged the Minnesota Vikings 34-33. There is a three-way tie for the division lead, proving what many believed—that the NFC West would likely be the most competitive division this season. "NFC West,
