49ers-Cardinals: Players, coaches praise Trey Lance after first NFL start

By Kirk Larrabee
Oct 10

Trey Lance's first NFL start was far from perfect, but it was good enough to leave a positive impression on those who were playing with and against him on the field. Lance finished with 192 yards on 15-of-29 passing with zero touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, while also leading both teams in rushing with 16 carries for 89 yards. Following the game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters he felt Lance played well overall despite the first quarter interception that the Cardinals turned into their first touchdown. "I thought he did some really good things," Shanahan said. "Definitely wasn't perfect, which no one ever has been. That first pick I thought just sailed on him. He was going to the right spot but it

49ers remaining positive despite three-game losing streak

By Kirk Larrabee

The San Francisco 49ers aren't anywhere near where they want to be five games into the regular season, but they're also not exactly down on themselves either as their bye week gets underway. The 49ers fell 17-10 to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, which marked their third consecutive loss after opening the season with wins over the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. The loss sent the 49ers to 2-3 on the year after defeats at the hands of the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks in previous weeks, and at the moment they face a sizable deficit in the NFC West behind the 5-0 Cardinals and 4-1 Los Angeles Rams. They're also dealing with a long list of injuries, most notably those to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (calf), tight end George Kittle (calf), running

49ers QB Trey Lance says he didn't take as many hits as it seemed against Cardinals

By Kirk Larrabee
Oct 10

On the surface, it may seem like 49ers quarterback Trey Lance took a bit too much punishment in his first NFL start, having carried the ball 16 times while being on the other end of two sacks and seven quarterback hits. But thankfully, Lance got out of the game unscathed and assured reporters afterwards the hits he took weren't as bad as they looked. Lance spoke to reporters following the 49ers' 17-10 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday, during which he ran for 89 yards while also throwing for 192 yards and one interception on 15-of-29 passing. He downplayed any concerns about the amount of hits he took, saying that most of them didn't exactly leave him in pain. "I didn't really think I took too many shots. I'm sure I'll see how I feel tomorrow. A lot of them were

14 rollercoaster observations from the 49ers loss in Arizona

By Marc Adams
Oct 11

Rookie quarterback Trey Lance made his starting debut on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. He played well, but as expected, it was a bit of a rollercoaster. There were ups and downs, just as there are when any rookie quarterback makes his first start. Last week, when Lance played the second half against the Seahawks, head coach Kyle Shanahan said there was some 'good' and some 'bad'. After his first start, Lance said the same thing about his performance on Sunday. Some good, some bad. A rollercoaster. The 49ers lost the game by a score of 17-10. The team, as a whole, had an up and down game. Here are my 14 rollercoaster observations from Sunday's game: I remember hearing how Shanahan was excitedly
