'I just got to step up to the plate': New 49ers starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir on his new role

By Adithya Peruvemba

A lot of newer young players will need to step up to the plate in order to fill the void left in the once potent 49ers' secondary after former starting cornerback Jason Verrett went down for the season with a torn ACL. Even prior to the heart-breaking loss in arguably the most important defensive unit this season, the secondary depth, especially the cornerback, was a red flag. Behind Verrett was an injured Emmanuel Moseley and two unproven rookie cornerbacks, who had size and skill concerns as they were taken after the first two rounds, not a great place to invest in a premium position. Fifth-round rookie Deommodore Lenoir however, has been a very pleasant surprise for San Fransisco, at least through preseason and Week 1 of the NFL season. Lenoir allowed a 0.0 passer rating

49ers-Eagles: Goal line stand turns the tide after shaky 49ers start

If there was one significant turning point in the San Francisco 49ers' 17-11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it was most likely the unexpected goal line stand members of the defense produced after a 91-yard pass put their backs against the wall in the second quarter. Down 3-0 to the Eagles with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the 49ers had a long field behind them after a punt from Mitch Wishnowsky pinned the Eagles at their own three-yard line. But on the first play after the punt, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went deep for wide receiver Quez Watkins, who went for 91 yards before being brought down by safety Jaquiski Tartt and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir at the 49ers' six-yard line. A pass interference call on cornerback Josh Norman two plays

The start of the 2021 NFL season is just days away, and everyone is making last-minute efforts to predict the outcome. That includes ESPN, which ran its annual Football Power Index (FPI) simulation of the entire 285-game schedule 20,000 times to project what will happen. ESPN used the simulations to predict the win total for each team and give a good idea of who might win Super Bowl 56 at SoFi Stadium in February. What happens in the NFC West, according to the simulation? The San Francisco 49ers start strong with a 4-1 record, tied for the best among the NFC. The Rams also start 4-1 while the Arizona

"We got San Francisco where we want them," Josh Norman's agent, Ryan Williams, told the veteran cornerback. Norman had just stepped away from an interview to take the call and learn of his NFL fate. With other suitors interested, the free agent waited to find the perfect landing spot following a one-season stint in Buffalo. "Like you said, they have a good defense," Williams continued. "They have a team that can compete, potentially win right now. So, you make the final call, man. What do you think?" Norman agreed, and the deal moved forward. "Alright, man. You're a Forty-Niner," his agent responded. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports was the first to
