According to Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports, the San Francisco 49ers were among several teams that met with running back T.J. Harden at SMU's pro day. Harden also reportedly met with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs.
"Underclassman running back T.J. Harden, who did not receive a combine invitation, measured six feet, 218 pounds, and timed 4.59 seconds in the 40 and 7.40 seconds in the three-cone," Pauline reported.
The 49ers could be looking to add to the running back room after Brian Robinson Jr., who served as Christian McCaffrey's backup last season, signed with the Atlanta Falcons. The team also has Jordan James, Isaac Guerendo, and Patrick Taylor on the roster.
Harden began his collegiate career at UCLA, where he played three seasons (2022–2024), before transferring to SMU for his final year in 2025.
Over four seasons, Harden totaled 495 carries for 2,445 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, adding 82 receptions for 622 receiving yards and three scores, per Sports Reference.
In 2025, Harden led SMU with 171 carries for 787 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. He also contributed 19 receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown, showcasing some versatility.
