49ers trade demands for Mac Jones viewed as ‘astronomical’

There is interest in the NFL to trade for Mac Jones, but the San Francisco 49ers may be asking for more than other teams are willing to pay.

NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported Tuesday that several teams have contacted the 49ers about Jones, but San Francisco's trade demands are considered extremely high.

"A few teams have called the San Francisco 49ers about QB Mac Jones," Russini wrote on social media, "but many interested around the league describe their price as 'astronomical.'"

Earlier this offseason, many around the league believed a second- or third-round draft pick might be enough to acquire Jones. However, Zack Rosenblatt, who covers the New York Jets for The Athletic, recently reported that the 49ers are seeking more than a second-round pick — a price many teams reportedly view as unrealistic.

Jones clearly holds significant value to the 49ers — clearly more than he does to potential trade partners. The quarterback revived his NFL career during his lone season in San Francisco, stepping in for an injured Brock Purdy.

Jones started eight games for the 49ers in 2025 and helped keep the team in the playoff race during a challenging stretch of the season. He finished the year with 2,151 passing yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

With Jones under contract through 2026, the 49ers also view him as valuable insurance behind Purdy, should the starter miss time again.

Unless San Francisco lowers its asking price, Jones is likely to remain on the roster heading into the 2026 season.
