49ers vs. Seahawks playoff showdown set for January 17

The San Francisco 49ers survived another week, upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles 23-19 at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday to advance to the Divisional Round, where they will face the No. 1 seed Seattle Seahawks next weekend.

Now, the NFL has announced the date of the highly anticipated matchup. The third meeting of the season between the 49ers and Seahawks—and the second at Lumen Field—will be played on Saturday, January 17. The kickoff time will be announced after Monday night's game between the Houston Texans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will either be at 1:30 p.m. PT or 5:00 p.m. PT.

Saturday, January 17

• 1:30 or 5:00 p.m. PT: Bills at Broncos (Network TBD)
• 1:30 or 5:00 p.m. PT: 49ers at Seahawks (Network TBD)

Sunday, January 18

• 12:00 or 3:30 p.m. PT: Rams at Bears (Network TBD)
• 12:00 or 3:30 p.m. PT: Steelers/Texans at Patriots (Network TBD)

The 49ers are 1-1 against Seattle this season, defeating their division rivals 17-13 at Lumen Field in Week 1 before falling 13-3 at Levi's Stadium in Week 18.

"I'm glad we get another shot," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the 49ers' Wild Card win over the Eagles. "They played us real well, definitely beat us, but I know we can play better than that. So, glad we got another shot."

When asked how strongly he preferred playing the Seahawks on Sunday rather than Saturday, the coach made his wishes clear.

"Very strongly," Shanahan responded. "But I'm expecting it to be Saturday. But hopefully, if the NFL is cool and understanding, they'll make it Sunday."

One 49ers beat writer, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, was clearly unhappy about the schedule for the Divisional Playoff round. However, he makes an excellent argument.

Despite coming off a short week, one player eager for the upcoming matchup is wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who was asked how excited he is to face the Seahawks again.

"Can't wait!" Jennings exclaimed, banging on the podium during his postgame media availability.
