Second-year San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jacob Cowing could finally be gearing up for his 2025 season debut. Cowing suffered a torn hamstring in August, which landed him on injured reserve.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the 49ers plan to open Cowing's practice window next week, ahead of the regular-season finale against the Seattle Seahawks.
"It was close to [being opened] this week," Shanahan said. "I'd be surprised if we don't start practicing him next week."
As a rookie in 2024, Cowing recorded four receptions for 80 yards. The team had high hopes for a breakout in 2025 after he impressed early during offseason workouts, but the injury proved to be a significant setback.
San Francisco selected Cowing out of Arizona in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
