San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, hot off earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, cracked a smile during Wednesday's media availability, clearly amused by a specific line of questioning.
After recounting the communication issue against the Indianapolis Colts, when the headset briefly went out and forced the 49ers to burn a timeout, Sports Illustrated's Grant Cohn asked Purdy, "Does Kyle ever call a play, and you listen to it, and you're like, 'That play sucks. I'm calling my own play.'?"
It was an odd question for the quarterback, who responded, "No. No, I do not. Kyle has great play calls. No, Grant."

The exchange drew laughs, but Purdy didn't bite on the suggestion and shut it down before it could go any further.
Earlier, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area asked whether Purdy has the green light to call his own plays if communication breaks down, as it did briefly in Indianapolis.
"Yeah," Purdy said. "There's definitely times where I can be ready for that, but at that point, I was still trying to hear it, and there's nine seconds left. So, at that point, we're like, 'No, let's be smart, and call a timeout, and regroup.'"
The 49ers beat the Colts 48-27 and are now preparing to host the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.
